Walnut Bracket Clock / Mantel Clock / With Chimes / Handmade

This beautiful walnut mantel clock is called a bracket clock. What is a bracket clock?  Around 1660, British clock makers began using springs to drive pendulum clocks.  This allowed the craftsmen to make clocks smaller than the longer pendulum weight driven tallcase clocks.  Originally supplied with a bracket for wall mounting, the smaller timepieces were called 'bracket clocks.'  Eventually the term applied to any small clock that stood on a shelf or piece of furniture. Not restricted to wall mounting, bracket clocks were moved from room to room, as needed.  Common characteristics of these clocks include ornate dials, metal inlays, wood or tortoise shell veneer overlays, a pediment, and a decorative base. Some clocks also have a handle.
The clock has 4 settings for chimes: Fur Elise no hour strike, hour strike, Westminster w/ hour strike and Westminster no hour strike.  Directions will be enclosed as to how to set your chimes.
