Clock does run but I don't think it keeps accurate time. You can hear a click when the alarm triggers, but no sound comes out of the back of Goku's head. In the past it used to play a song and yell "good morning" at you, but he sat in a basement for years and seems too depressed to sing now. No battery cover.
