Antique French Onyx Mantel Clock Bell Chime Runs & Strikes Brass & Green Colored Trim Clock w/ Urn All Under a Glass Dome w/ Wood Base Old Key
Item Description Here is a unique and great looking French Onyx Mantel Clock that sits under a glass dome with wood base for your buying consideration. Beautiful antique white onyx case clock  here. Would make a great gift for a special occasion, or keep for yourself. This clock was recently acquired from the collection of a 101 year old PA jeweler that was selling his prized clocks.  He also had a Seth Thomas No. 32, but we were not able to acquire that. We were fortunate enough to get his Gebruder Resch Vienna Regulator w/ Repeater Option and an 1878 Gustav Becker Vienna Regulator that will be offered separately in our online stores. This fine antique clock is being offered to you at a price below what you would see in a high end auction house or clock shop.  We have been selling clocks out of our home for over 35 years.  We are therefore better positioned to control our acquisition costs, keep commission costs low (if applicable), and finally, we don't have the overhead that the high end auction houses and clock shops experience . This French clock is just beautiful.  We have acquired nothing like this clock in the past few years to compare it to.  There is brass trim around each level of the clock.  Nice scalloped front to the lower part of the clock case.  There are green and gold colored trim  pieces on the front of the clock.  Two green  to  the lower sides of the clock face, a larger one below the face.  Two green and gold ball trim pieces on the front of the clock near the base. There is a onyx or porcelain topper urn with brass trim and green and gold detailing painted on the inside and outside lip.  Some green finish loss there.  Beautifully crafted brass handles on the urn topper. Then, check out the amazing glass dome and wood base that comes with this clock. Flat bottom on the dome, not rolled, so the glass dome has some age to it.  Some minor blistering along the edge, no cracks.  The wood base has nice exposed graining to it with a light goldish brown finish.  Wood legs on the wood base.  There are some remnants of green felt along the base edge of the glass dome. One important item to consider in acquiring is that we will ship the clock to you. However, we are not experts at shipping the glass dome and wood base, so you will need to make separate arrangements to have that part sent to you.  We can get quotes from our local UPS store for you, just send along your address. The clock was made in the circa  1870s to 1880s period. The clock has brass legs.    We see no cracks, splits, repairs, or missing pieces to report to you.  The clock case is quite intact.  Some very minor chipping along a few of the edges, hardly noticeable even by finger, let alone by eye.  An older paper label with blue detailing along the edge with then numbers 217 and 3100 written on it. Beautiful white enameled porcelain face on this clock.  Black numbering and roman numeral numbering.  No cracks or hairlines to the face that we can ascertain.  Stunning gold trim plate around the face with a beaded edge.  There are no grommets, does not look like there ever were any.  The fancy black colored hands match and look appropriate to the clock. Some minor surface scratching to the glass on the outside.  The metal rear door is also in place and no longer has any fabric on the inside of it. Nice brass movement on this clock.  The clock has a nickel plated bell chime.  Strikes once on the half hour and the number of hours on the hour.  No maker name on the movement which is pretty typical of most French Clocks.  There are the numbers "2156" in the left upper quadrant, and "44" at the bottom middle of the back plate of the movement.  The clock comes with nice looking older winding key.  The pendulum is with the clock.  The clock movement has a good beat, with or without the pendulum in place.  The clock does strike as expected. The clock movement was just serviced by Clock Doc.  The washer and taper pin are now in place. So, selling this clock in running and striking condition. The clock stands 13.75" tall (15.75" sitting on the wood base), by 11.75" across (15" by wood base), by 6" wide (7.5" by wood base). The clock face is 3-3/8" across. The clock may be partially disassembled (pendulum removed, maybe topper removed) to more safely ship it to you.  Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures. We are selling this clock in running and striking condition at this juncture,  no warranty intended.  There is no representation that the clock is in original condition, or will continue to be in working order.  Again, the shipping quote provided here only covers shipping the clock to you.  You will either have to pick the glass dome and wood base up in Wilmington, DE or make arrangements with UPS to ship those pieces separately to you. The pictures provided both complement and supplement the listing description, so please look at them very closely as well.  With old items, there is no way one can capture all the little imperfections in words, so the two media are meant to be the full description. As can be expected when dealing with an antique clock, some adjustments may be needed after shipping to get the clock re-running correctly again as they can be very delicate.  If you have not had experience with old mechanical clocks before, I would suggest you steer clear.  One really needs to have the patience, and skill to work with these great works of art.  They are not our modern plug in and go, or change the battery clocks.  Please ask any questions relating to this matter, before you decide to purchase it. Make sure that this clock meets your needs and requirements before deciding to acquire it.   The item can be returned, there is a 15% restocking fee to do so.   So, please carefully review all the attached pictures, ask all the questions you have, come see in person or send a friend to see the item on your behalf, prior to deciding to acquire it. Don't be shy to make an offer, we are always open to reasonable suggestions!
