Seth Thomas Antique Mantle Clock Head Lions green faux Marble w/key. The clock has been in our family for over 50 years. It was given to us by husband's parents that long ago. They owned it previously. We did use it for several years then stopped winding it and used it as a decorative item rather than time keeping. Measures: approximately 16” long at base x 7” deep x 11” tall. Clock appears to work but has not been wound in some time. The clock chime is beautiful. The works are marked 4 1/2" and Made is US America. The top and accents are deep green Adamantine (faux marble) are in very good condition. It has the pendulum and key. Key is old but may not be original to this clock. The Lion Heads at each end have the nose rings. Original glass in perfect condition, hands and face also original and in great condition. The back of the clock has most of the original label. Case condition is the original paint. See Note below: On one end of the case, there is an area of the paint that looks shinier than the rest of the end. Other end has a spot where it looks like something dripped. We have not tried to remove it. We understand the label's patent is in reference to when the rights to the Adamantine finish were acquired and allowed the beginning production of Adamantine finished Mantel Clocks in general. That date is September, 1880. There is hand written number inscribed in the back of the case (C / 8086) and we don't know if this could mean August of 1886 or something else. The other marking of note is on the bottom of the case and pictured in the last picture above. We understand Seth Thomas made a mark of the manufacture date. the numbers are the year printed in reverse, with the letter denoting the month. We believe then that the year could be 1890 but uncertain of the month. Thank you for your interest.
