A millennium is simply a period of 1000 years the first millennium began nearly 2000 years ago with the year 1 A.D. because there wasn't a year 0 A.D., each succeeding Millennium (and decade and century for that matter) must begin with a year ending in the numeral 1. Technically, therefore, the 3rd millennium did not begin until 2001. However, people the world over prepared to ring it in a year early, on December 31st 1999. This clock can now be set to run as a traditional clock. Follow the instructions (Booklet Included) to change the Time Mode * NOTE:

 You will need to replace the battery with a fresh battery (which is not included): You will need to purchase a 3 Volt Lithium Cell battery (Sony CR2025 or Panasonic BR2025 or Everready ECR2025 or equivalent lithium battery designated as a #2025.  You will need a small Philips Head screwdriver (not included) to remove the two (2) small screws that secure the back plate of this clock.
