Beautiful Morbier clock in excellent condition offered for sale at an attractive price. The clock has a working calendar. Morbier clocks with working calendars are getting harder and harder to find. Standing 93 1/2 in tall the clock case which has been treated against any possible damage from wood boring insects is finished in the color of rosewood. The case is lightly hand card with scrolls and hand-painted with flowers and green white red and pink. The brass work is especially attractive and the Lyre pendulum is decorated with nice bright cut fittings. The clock features a fully operating calendar and the enamel dial is in excellent condition and is signed " Lafargue Frichon a Coutras" ( Coutras is a very small village in Southwest France near Bordeaux. FYI the French Morbier clock is known as a "provincial clock" as distinguished from clocks made in major urban centers such as Paris. The clocks were named after the village of Morbier which lies about 30 miles north of Geneva and beginning in the second half of the 18th century the local farmers and other Craftsmen began to manufacture various clock parts during the cold winter months which in turn were assembled by clock finishers. Why am I selling? I purchased this clock nearly 20 years ago. I have since moved on to a yacht where I live full-time and and thus offering this beautiful clock for sale. It was showcased in my law office until I recently retired.
