Two colors of Backlight for choices.  If the power is supplied by the car cigarette lighter when plugged,backlight is light up and all the contents(including the time, temperature and volt) will be displayed on the LCD screen.   If the power is supplied by the backup battery when unplugged, there is no backlight and LCD screen will only display the time.
