Late 18th century Louis XVI French Polished Brass Diana Mantel Clock

Elaborate 19th century polished brass mantle or table top clock. Beautifully cast French Second Empire motifs, and being true to the period, every available inch is taken advantage of. The piece sits on four paw feet, which are joined to the clock base with scroll work and foliate details. The front/center of the base has a stylized banner style design, just under the clock face. The face has an enameled metal dial, with Arabic style numerals. The face has a hinged cover with a beveled glass surrounded by a brass frame. The clock face is framed on four sides with dramatic scrolled designs with the top piece having a cartouche topped with a stylized shell. The sides have large, imposing lions' heads, each with a hinged ring held in their mouths. The domed top has a base frame with a repeating leaf pattern, while the dome has more raised scrollwork. It is crowned with an flaming urn, flanked by winged female busts. The back is polished like the rest of the piece, but is unadorned - the clock was meant to sit on a mantle, or a console table. The works are stamped with " Medaille D'Argent" which means the maker received a silver medal at an exhibition. It comes with its original key. The case is in exceptional condition - no nicks, dings or repairs. Sits evenly and levelly. The face is clean and shows very little wear - there is a short hairline from the right-hand key hole to the decorative filigree at the base of the hands. The clock's works are not guaranteed - it will run for 45 minutes, but then only briefly after it stops, it likely needs a minor adjustment. Has its original pendulum and bell.
