The hand shaft is 2" long. These movements are a rare find. The extra gear assembly on the front is designed to run a color wheel or annimation associated with the clock face. An example would be the Hamms clock that depicts a flowing river. The small gear on the front frequently wears out the hole it goes through. That gear can get so loose that the clock stops and can even damage the teeth on the larger gear.
