The Pivot Center Finder Handle is made from Solid Brass and feels as good as it looks. As you progress and sharpen your clock repair skills you will come across pivots that are grooved or broken. You can send these out for repair or you can fix them yourself. My Center Finding Tool will make Pivoting a Clock Arbor an easier task by marking the Center of the Arbor with a Divot that guides Your final size drill bit. It uses a perfectly centered Cone and Drill bit which captures the arbor and holds it centered while the divot is formed on the end of the arbor. I added a shallow cone on the other end to be used for very short arbors due to lantern pinions being too close to the pivoting job, Nice feature. Pivoting is the process a Clockmaker uses to replace a worn or broken Pivot. Pivots run in brass plates for 15 to 20 years and eventually stop the clock as the turning resistance increases. It is caused by dirt, grooved or broken pivots. The trick is to replace a pivot as quickly as you replace a bushing, that is what the Center Finding Tool allows you to do. After the New Pivot is in, replace the Bushing it rides in as the old bushing is also grooved or elongated. Replace the bushing and size it to your new pivot. You can cut or file off the broken pivot stud, smooth, create the centered divot using the Pivot Center Tool, drill the pivot hole, install new pivot and polish. The Arbor/Shaft size must be .065" or larger to work with this Centering Tool. Pivot size does not matter.
