Antique Japes Freres Mantel Clock with Urn Topper Runs & Strikes France Missing Black Metal Urn Part of Topper
Item Description Here is a great looking antique French for your buying consideration. Would make a great gift for a special occasion, or keep for yourself! A Buyer was recently awarded this item. When went to retrieve from an antique shop, we found the metal urn part of the topper was missing , so Buyer decided to cancel transaction. Available again for your buying advantage! What a great case and topper on this clock. We say this clock is uncommon as I cannot find one just like it online. I have referred to the antiqueclockpriceguide site and a couple of sites that we use. Not sure what the model name is for this clock. If one of you out there knows, please clue me in. Your identity would be kept anonymous. Beautiful slate, brass and iron case on this one. The case is black with a great design with incising. There is a brass or brass like legs around the lower part of the base of this clock. I just see some minor chips to the slate case, no cracks, or repairs to it. Beautiful green and black marble trim pieces on front of case around the clock face. The finish on the clock does have some minor loss to it. The gold colored metal rear door is on the clock, certainly has some finish loss. The bottom of the case has what appears to be the appropriate plaster or metal panel that holds the gong unit. Even the clock case's brass front legs and metal rear legs are still intact. The clock was probably made in the latter 1800s time frame. The porcelain face on this clock is immaculate. No hairline cracks, chips or missing pieces. Has the name of a Doussard Barthelemy on it that was probably a jeweler. This is an old clock, and amazingly is see no cracking going on. There are no Japy Freres markings on the middle plate of the face of the clock or at the bottom of it (very common for this maker not to put their name on the face). A little wear to the painted on numbers on the face in places, but minimal. There is a gold colored trim ring around the clock face. The bezel is securely attached to the case at the hinge. The beveled glass is intact, no cracking or blistering. The hands match and look appropriate to the clock. The topper also looks pretty good on this clock. This metal bowl is now no longer with the clock unlike what is shown in the pics. The black metal bowl has lost some of its' finish in places. Great metal piece that holds the black metal bowl. The piece under the bow appears to be brass. The clock then has a gold gilted metal trim piece above the black metal topper on the clock. There are also matching trim pieces on the side of the clock. The one trim plate on the piece on the right side of the clock is missing 25% of the piece. The clock is now in running condition after having been serviced by Clock Doc. It needed a bushing or two and the serge section of the movement needed cleaning. This is a time and strike clock. The movement and gong unit are in place. The movement has the expected Japy Freres medallion at the bottom middle of the movement. There is also the name Franjus engraved into the left top of the movement. The clock will come with a newer winding key. Both springs in the movement feel sound when keyed. The clock strikes once at the half hour and the number of hours on the hour. T he hanger for the pendulum and the pendulum are there. So, the clock is being sold in running and striking condition. The clock stands 20.75" tall (12.25" without topper), by 11.5" across, by 6.25" wide. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures.
