This is a large and very neat old iron front clock made by the American Clock Co., a co-op of such makers as J.C. Brown, Jerome, Gilbert, Manross, Terry and Andrews, Brewster and Ingraham, Smith and Goodrich and Birge, who made clocks in Bristol, CT and sold them in NYC. The case and dial pan are dated late 1850's. This model was sold right around 1860 which means it actually sat on someone's mantle and kept time during the American Civil War.
The original 8 day time and strike movement has been cleaned and is in good running and gonging order. It gongs the number of each hour on an 1850's wire gong.
The paper part of the dial was replaced over the dated dial pan and matches the clock nicely. The iron front is in good condition with no breaks. The wooden back has some repairs but is in good condition. This clock originally started life in black paint but at some point down the line (probably a hundred years ago) it was repainted gold. It is now once again nicely aged and worn. It measures 20" tall x 15 ½" wide x 4 ½" deep and comes complete with a key and pendulum. Payment

Most clocks will be shipped within 5 business days of received payment. We like to give each clock sold a final test run and observation before packing. This helps insure that the new owner will have a satifying experience. All items are carefully packaged with around 1 1/2" of packing material between your purchase and the box. All items are shipped insured. We never anticipate damage but in the event that an incident occurs, we will help with insurance claims as much as possible. Be very sure to save all packaging material if there is a problem. Normally, all shipping costs are based on actual price for estimated weight plus a minimal fee for packaging material and insurance. In rare instances there may be a flat rate shipping price quoted. Smaller items can be combined to save shipping costs. Because clocks require large boxes, priority mail is expensive. We try to describe all items accurately so that you pretty much know exactly what to expect when your purchase arrives. It should be understood before bidding that all antique clocks, unless otherwise noted, have knicks, scratches, tarnished brass, stains and dents which are normally aquired from long term honest use. It is nearly impossible to find one in "mint" condition. If a clock has damage from misuse, it will be noted. If a clock is sold as "in running condition", it means that we have test ran it before listing it and feel confident that it will run for you. If a clock is running properly when it arrives,... thats about the best we can do. We cannot guarantee that a clock will not break down, but will not sell anything that we expect to break down without noting that it is being sold as parts or for restoration. In the event that you are not happy, please first go back and read the description to make sure that the item was not misrepresented, and then email us.
